In 1969, Rolex began producing the references 6263 and 6265 in steel, 18k gold, and 14k gold, featuring the caliber 727. The chronographs were guaranteed waterproof to 50 meters, with newly redesigned screw down buttons and crown.

The present watch features silvered dial with popular cherry red Daytona designation. On closer inspection one will notice that the red Daytona signature is smaller than seen on the more common examples. Nicknamed the "Small Red," this rare printing has become increasingly difficult to find.
