SINGULAR WINES FROM A PASSIONATE COLLECTOR
A FOCUS ON THE VERY BEST OF BURGUNDY, PIEDMONT, AND RHONE

We are excited to offer another curated collection from a very close friend of the Christie’s Wine Department. The singular wines in this collection speak of the collectors’ excellent taste, precise nature and deep understanding of specific producers. Many of the wines in the collection were acquired directly from American distributors, or in some instances, directly from certain Domaines.

We start the collection with very rare mature wines from Barolo and Barbaresco. Focusing on the Masters of each region: Bruno Giacosa from Barbaresco and Giacomo Conterno from Barolo. The bottles of Giacosa offered in this collection is breathtaking. Riserva Speciale 64, Collina Rionda Riserva 78, and Ginestra di Monforte 74 are all offered. Conterno’s magical Monfortino; that most rarified of Piemonte wines, features here in great quantity and from an impressive range of vintages that span the period 1941 – 2006, including the extremely rare 1941 Extra Barolo Stravecchio.

The list of legendary Domaines seems endless: DRC, Roumier, Mugnier, d’Auvenay, Coche-Dury and Roulot are all worthy of special mention, but many other excellent producers play important roles across this glorious collection. Not to miss is an offering of the Godfather of Chablis: Raveneau. All the great Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards represented in vertical offerings.

The Rhône valley is well-represented. Only the very best for the Rhône specialist. Very rare releases of Gentaz-Dervieux’s Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune from 1988 and 1990 is offered in pristine condition. Also not to miss are the singular wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Rayas and Henri Bonneau—both very different yet both by all sought-after by top collectors.

It is almost too easy to bid on every lot as the collection is very much already curated by this collector but I will leave you the fun part of selecting the next bottles to add to your collection.

Richard Young
BRUNO GIACOSA

Since the winery's founding 1961, Bruno Giacosa has been one of Italy's most respected producers of traditionally styled Barolo and Barbaresco. Giacosa's riserva bottlings, indicated by the iconic red labels, are wines of incredible complexity and finesse, that age. Bruno Giacosa's winemaking ethos elevates purity and simplicity above all else. In his own words “winemaking involves a great many small decisions, each affecting the next. One can only hope to get them right, to capture what there was in the grapes to begin with.”
