Lot Essay

The present view is taken from the base of Magazine Hill, looking east towards the city. Landmarks visible include, from left to right: the Wellington Memorial, St Michan’s Church, The Four Courts, Thomas Street Distillery, Sarah’s Bridge, now Island Bridge, and the Royal Kilmainham Hospital, now the Irish Museum of Modern Art. The Four Courts and the Thomas Street Distillery can be seen from the west in lot 110.
