Lot Essay

A member of a prominent seafaring family of Essex, New Jersey and Newport, Rhode Island, Lieutenant Benjamin Turner (1780-1807) is known today mainly for his death in a duel with Lieutenant John Rush, son of the renowned Philadelphia physician and patriot Dr. Benjamin Rush (1745/6-1813).
