Lot Essay

Bearing an address on the "West side of Front Street," the printed label on the reverse of this looking glass was used by John Elliott, Jr. (1739-1810) between 1784 and 1790, when he was still working in the shop of his father, John Elliott, Sr. (1713-1791) (see Judith Coolidge Hughes, "The Labels of John Elliott, Jr.," The Magazine Antiques (April 1967), p. 517.
