Iconic and very rare, the present timepiece is unkown to the auction market and a highly appealing example of Patek Philippe’s celebrated reference 130. Part of the early chronographs of the reference, the wristwatch was assembled with a superb two-tone silvered sector dial, considered as being amongst the most desirable combinations for collectors. Made for a limited time period, sector dials appeared on chronographs in the mid 1930's, the present timepiece further embellished by the presence of a tachometer scale and applied stainless steel indexes confirmed by the extract from the archives.
Manufactured with an attractive stainless steel case with lugs providing the chronograph a more masculine look, the movement of the wristwatch is stamped with the PXP export mark, indicating that the timepiece was originally intended for the American market.
Offered by an important private collector, the present reference 130 in stainless steel with sector dial can be considered as offering one of the most attractive combination known for the reference.
Reference 130
Reference 130, one of Patek Philippe's landmark models, was launched in 1934 and remained in production until the 1960s. Distinguished by its timeless "Calatrava" design, the model was available in different precious metals as well as in stainless steel.
It is interesting to note that the lugs of the stainless steel version are different from the yellow, pink or white gold ones. Their slightly thicker but shorter design gives the watch a rather tonneau-shaped design and a more sportive, robust and masculine look.
