AN OPAQUE JADE ‘ANIMAL MASK’ STAFF FITTING
LATE HONGSHAN CULTURE, CIRCA 3500-3000 BC
The thick-sided fitting is carved to each side with an animal mask, detailed with large circular eyes, nostrils and a long narrow mouth, surrounding a cylindrically hollowed centre.
