engraving, 1544, on laid paper, watermark Ladder in a Circle surmounted by a Star (similar to Briquet 5920), a very good, early impression of the first state (of two), trimmed on or just inside the platemark but retaining a fillet of blank paper outside the borderline, with a vertical central fold, generally in good condition
