engraving, circa 1545-1555, on laid paper, watermark Bunch of Grapes and an indistinct countermark, a good impression of the first state (of two) of this rare print, beginning to show some oxidation marks in the plate at upper right but before the publisher Augustin Quesnel's address, trimmed inside the platemark but retaining a fillet of blank paper outside the borderline, a vertical printer's crease across the right, in very good condition

Lot Essay

The engraving is based on Rosso's painting for the Galerie François I at Fontainebleau of circa 1535-40. Another contemporary, etched version of the same subject exists by the anonymous Master IQV.
