etching, before 1624, on laid paper, without watermark, a good impression of the second, final state, trimmed on or just inside the platemark, laid down to an 18th century paper mount with an ink wash border and framing lines, in good condition; together with Cupid whipping a Satyr, etching, circa 1606-1652, on laid paper, without watermark, a good but probably 18th century impression, with small margins, in good condition

Lot Essay

Both The Lamentation and Cupid whipping a Satyr were previously attributed to Ribera but Brown rejected these attributions on the basis of style and the engraved monograms.
