The rare first edition in English in original boards of Shelekhov’s voyage, translated by William Tooke, a Russian historian and chaplain of the Anglican church in Russia. Shelekhov founded the Shelekhov-Golikov Company, a fur-trading company, and established the first permanent settlement in Russian America, Three Saints Bay. His men massacred the Sugpiag people in what became known as the "Wounded Knee of Alaska." ABPC and RBH record no copy at auction since 1969 (the Streeter copy). Shelekhov's account appears at the beginning of volume two. Howes S-379; cf. Lada-Mocarski 49; Streeter sale 3492A; Tourville 4105, 4656; Wickersham 6286.

Two volumes, octavo (227 x 142mm). Original blue papered boards (rebacked, repairs to corners); custom box. Provenance: Reg & Philip Remington, Books.
