PARRY, William Edward (1790-1855). Appendix to Captain Parry's Journal of a Second Voyage for the Discovery of a North-west Passage. London: John Murray, 1825.
The first edition of the elusive Appendix to Parry's second voyage, containing scientific reports such as observations on the moon, tides, atmospheric refraction, velocity of sound, and natural history including quadrupeds and birds by John Richardson, botany by William Hooker and zoophytes by John Fleming. The Journal was published the previous year as the first volume of a two-volume set with this Appendix, however the Appendix is particularly rare and frequently lacking in sets of the Voyages. Arctic Bib. 13142 (both vols.); Sabin 58865.
Quarto (283 x 220mm). 2 engraved botanical plates. A disbound publisher's catalogue tipped-in. Untrimmed and partially unopened. Original boards (rebacked). Provenance: Beekman Pool (bookplate) – Patrick McGahern Books.
