RICHARDSON, John (1787-1865). The Zoology of the Voyage of H.M.S. Herald, Under the Command of Captain Henry Kellett, During the Years 1845-51. London: Lovell Reeve, 1854.
The first edition of this zoological publication of the voyage of the Herald, with descriptions of fossil bones from Eschscholtz Bay. The first part of this work appeared in 1852; in 1854 it was completed, and issued with a new title-page. Forbes 2049; Lada-Mocarski 139; Sabin 71033; not in Hill.
Quarto (310 x 240mm). Half-title. 33 lithograph plates printed on india paper and mounted, 17 of which are double-page (a little foxing to a handful of plates). Modern red half morocco gilt over marbled boards. Provenance: Newcastle-on-Tyne Public Library (small stamp marks on title verso) – Franklin Brooke-Hitching (his sale, Sotheby’s, 19 March 2015, lot 713).
