The first edition of an Arctic adventure under Captain Allen Young. The steam yacht Pandora journeyed through Peel Strait in search of the Northwest Passage, but was turned back by pack ice. On the voyage home, the ship picked up the dispatches from the North Pole expedition of George Nares. Only five copies recorded by ABPC and RBH. Arctic Bib. 10044.
Octavo (188 x 126mm). 7 wood-engraved plates, one lithographic folding map (text block cracked). Original decorated cloth. Provenance: Macleod (ownership inscription dated 1876) – William Priester (his sale, Bonhams New York, 25 June 2013, lot 2172).
