The privately published first edition—very rare at auction. An illustrated history of Arctic exploration by Peary’s meteorologist, who intended to use the proceeds to fund his own expedition. A passage critical of Peary led to a permanent rift between the two men. No copies recorded by ABPC or RBH. Arctic Bib. 1009.
Octavo (223 x 146mm). Portrait frontispiece, 32 double-sided plates, many in-text illustrations. Original blindstamped sheep, edges gilt (front board coming loose, caps worn). Provenance: Wessel & Lieberman Booksellers.
