Edward Wilson’s personal copy of the charts from Scott’s Discovery expedition. Mulock had been selected to replace Shackleton on the Discovery after the latter was sent home due to illness. According to Rosove: “[He] proved to be an enormous asset: he collated the cartographic data and prepared these six detailed charts of the newly discovered lands and coasts. Scott had the highest praise for him.” Renard 1106; Rosove 233.A1; Spence 821.

Quarto (256 x 166mm). 6 loose folding maps (occasional small closed tears at map creases). Original printed blue paper wrapper, fixed to front paste-down of publisher’s blue cloth portfolio (lacking silk ties, spine strengthened). Provenance: Edward Wilson (1872-1912, scientist on Scott’s Discovery and Terra Nova expeditions, who died in the tent next to Scott on their way back from the South Pole) – Oriana Wilson (1874-1945, Wilson’s widow) – Cheltenham Public Library (gift bookplate and stamp) – Colin Bull (1928-2010, Arctic scientist and explorer).
