Lot Essay

Named after the legendary Carrera Panamericana race that took place in Mexico between 1950 and 1950, the reference 2447 with its Valjoux 72 movement and its two-registered sibling reference 3647 powered by the Valjoux 92, became staple fixtures of the pit lane in the 1960s together with the Autavia. Embracing what Jack Heuer learnt from studying legible design in watch dials, plus
the minimalist Bauhaus aesthetic that was so popular at the time, the Carrera really stood out from the designs which had preceded it and signalled the new direction for the design language of Heuer. Notable for its early “1st execution” dial with two-tone silvered dial in stark contrast to the red tachymeter scale, this particular example is further distinguished by its Beyer retailer signature
at 12, the prestigious Zurich jeweller, confirmed by the inventory number to the back of the lug. A handsome and well-proportioned watch in highly attractive condition from its pristine dial to its sharp lugs, this watch present the chance to imagine oneself in the golden age of motor racing.
