Details
A SELECTION OF LAFITE-ROTHSCHILD RELEASED DIRECTLY FROM THE RESERVE CELLARS OF THE CHÂTEAU

To mark the 90th Anniversary Year of Michael Broadbent MW
Michael Broadbent MW established the modern Wine Department at Christie’s in 1966 - exactly 200 years after the firm started selling wines in 1766 - a tradition that continues to the present day making Christie’s by far the longest established of all fine wine Auction houses. From 1966 onwards, it was made very clear by Michael that Lafite was often his most favoured and preferred Bordeaux. The elegant and understated qualities of the wines clearly appealed to his assertion that the best Claret should be ‘fragrant and evocative’, but also less prosaically, ‘cleansing for the palate and an aid to digestion’. Multiple notes from his three editions of The Great Vintage Wine Book, clearly support Michael’s great love for the wines of Lafite over four centuries of production.

The following lots 76 to 97 were recently removed from the reserve cellars at Château Lafite-Rothschild and labelled and packaged especially for this sale.

We would like to thank Baron Eric de Rothschild and the staff at Château Lafite-Rothschild for their kindness and co-operation in the preparation of the unique bottles.

The entire proceeds from the sale of these Lafite lots will be donated between the Institute of Masters of Wine Endowment Fund and for the furtherance of education in the Médoc area
