Snake, 1989

Jake McCord was a simple-seeming man who enjoyed displaying his latest work in the side yard next to his house in Thomson, Georgia. His paintings were frank and straightforward and often depicted houses, animals and big-haired women. I remain particularly entranced by a sea-like creature of white against a bi-level green and turquoise background. - M.F.
