Lot Essay

Illustrated in the seminal exhibition on furniture made by Dunlap family cabinetmakers, this desk was found in Hillsborough, New Hampshire. Its interior drawer arrangement is virtually identical to an example attributed to Major John Dunlap (1746–1792) and now in the Currier Gallery of Art (The Dunlaps and Their Furniture, fig. 64).
