Ce dessin particulièrement important par sa taille est une étude pour un tableau mesurant 119 par 211 cm, signé et daté de 1628 (Vendu à Wawra, Vienne, le 29 janvier 1919, lot 211). Sous l’arc de triomphe à gauche, l’Empereur Charles V est représenté, entouré de figures allégoriques, avec un Ange de la Paix le survolant. Arrivant de la droite, assis sur un chariot et suivi par un grand nombre d’admirateurs, la figure allégorique de la Foi entre dans la composition. Le dessin est typique du style si particulier de Vrancx, et peut être comparé à ses illustrations des Énéides (L. Wood Ruby, ‘Sebastiaen Vrancx as Illustrator of Virgil’s Aeneid’, Master Drawings, vol. 28, 1990, no. 1, pp. 54-73).

From the right, seated on a chariot and with a large following, the allegorical figure of Faith enters the scene. The drawing is executed in Vrancx’ highly individual style, and can be compared to his illustrations of the Aeneid (L.
