Certaines figurent sont récurrentes dans l’œuvre graphique de Daumier. Celle-ci, de par son style et la manière notamment de faire le nez et d’accentuer les rides, peut-être rapprochée d’une tête d’homme représenté dans une version du Wagon de troisième classe, une aquarelle conservée en collection particulière (op. cit., 1999-2000, no. 274, ill.). Cette série représentant les transports en commun réalisée dans les années 1862-1867 est l’occasion pour Daumier d’observer la physionomie des personnages et les clivages sociaux, notamment à travers de nombreuses études de têtes insolées, reprises ultérieurement dans des compositions plus ambitieuses.

Because of its style and the way the woman’s nose and wrinkles are rendered, this drawing can be compared to the head of a man in a version of the Third class coach, a watercolour now in a private collection (op. cit., 1999-2000, no. 274, ill.). Made between 1862 and 1867, his series devoted to public transport allowed Daumier an occasion to observe the faces of figures from different social classes, especially in numerous studies of isolated heads, which later make their appearance in more ambitious compositions
