A MIDNIGHT-BLUE KESI FORMAL COURT ROBE, CHAOPAO
LATE QING DYNASTY
The robe is woven on the upper half with four five-clawed dragons clutching flaming pearls amidst clouds and various precious objects. The attached, pleated, flared skirt is similarly worked, and joined to the upper garment by a narrow waistband decorated with two pairs of confronted dragons chasing flaming pearls.
