Immediately recognizable through its dial and aesthetics, the present chronograph is part of the reference 6239, launched in the early 1960s and the first Rolex chronograph reference with an engraved tachymeter scale on its bezel. Manufactured with pump chronograph pushers and an attractive stainless steel case, later followed by gold versions, part of the most coveted examples of the reference feature exotic “Paul Newman” dials.
Of superb quality, the present wristwatch distinguishes itself through its excellent overall condition and very rare tropical ‘Paul Newman’ dial. Aesthetically stunning, the dial of the chronograph evolved throughout the years with its subsidiary registers and outer-track gradually turning from black to an attractive shade of brown. Complementing the overall appeal of the timepiece, the stainless steel case has retained strong proportions throughout the years and is assembled with a case back stamped 6239 to its inside. Rarely offered at auction, watches of this rarity with tropical “Paul Newman” dials are source of great fascination.
