Lot Essay

Highly appealing and in excellent overall condition, this timepiece is offered with its certificate and is furthermore one of the most atypical Richard Mille offered in the auction. Part of the most coveted models of the manufacture, the wristwatch is accompanied with a rare connected Richard Mille “Rafa” Babolat tennis racquet, which was never commercialized and hence unavailable to the public. The RM035 represents one of the most successful partnerships of the brand and bears the name of Rafael Nadal. With a case made of Magnesium-Aluminium, one of the lightest metal used for construction, the wristwatch is coated with a treatment used in aerospace and automotive industries, which improves both the hardness and scratch resistance of the alloy used for the case.

Born in 1986 in Mallorca, Spain, Rafael Nadal became a professional tennis player at 15 years old. At age 19, Nadal won the 2005 Roland-Garros open the first time he competed in the tournament, which was to be the first of his nine French Open Singles titles. Nicknamed "The King of Clay", the Spanish player is known for his physical style of play and tenacity. Today, he is one of only two men to have won four majors and Olympic gold.
