The present lot is closely related to the ex Halevim Karabagh rug sold in these Rooms, 8 April 2014, lot 115. The field design of both rugs is very similar but the border of our rug has a more conventional contrasting design. Both rugs belong to an unusual group of South Caucasian rugs characterised by their field of flowering stems with stylised rosettes that are reminiscent of the bold rosettes of Konya rugs. The ivory field of the present lot is a particularly attractive and unusual feature as the majority of the other examples have narrow blue or green fields. For other examples in the group please see the rugs sold at Skinner, 12 June 1985, lot 118, and Rippon Boswell, 7 May 1977, lot 95.
