Lot Essay

Known as 'Manchester' Kashans, and similar to the second generation 'Mohtashams', these carpets were piled far thicker than the Kashan carpets of only a few years earlier. Using a very soft kurk wool, they were woven very finely, using expensive materials, and were much sought after in the 1920s and 1930s. It was these carpets that the 'American' Sarouk carpets were trying to provide cheap coarser alternatives for.
