Lot Essay

Beechey's account books indicate that a "Miss Keen" sat for the artist in 1790. Elizabeth Keene was the daughter and heiress of Whitshed Keene, Esq., M.P. for Montgomery from 1774 until 1818 and Elizabeth Legge, daughter of George, Viscount Lewisham. She married John Weyland of Woodrising, Norfolk, on 12 March 1799.
