This figure is after one of the surrounding figures of the basin on Bandinelli’s Fountain of Neptune, commissioned by Cosimo de’ Medici in 1559 for the Piazza della Signoria in Florence. As Bandinelli died before the project could be started, the fountain was completed by Ammannati and Giambologna, among others, in 1574.
