A BRONZE MODEL OF A BADGER DISGUISED AS A PRIEST
TAISHO PERIOD (EARLY 20TH CENTURY), SIGNED JOUN SAKU (OSHIMA JOUN; 1858-1940)
Cast as the legendary raccoon-faced dog, commonly called a badger in Western parlance, wearing the robes and holding the beads of a priest, turning around in the guise of an itinerant priest to deceive unsuspecting passersby, the details finely chiseled and the eyes partially inlaid in gilt and shakudo, signature on underside
