Château Mouton-Rothschild 1988
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Slightly damaged capsules. Bin-soiled labels, two badly bin-soiled. Levels: five into neck, four base of neck, two top-shoulder
Tasting note: At 10 years of age, drinking surprisingly well. Though still youthful looking, a rich toasty nose and delicious flavour.
Most recently: fairly deep, plummy coloured; sweet, rather rustic nose, good extract and fruit. An hour after decanting, a whiff of charred tar and mocha, opening up better later that evening. Touch of sweetness, perfect weight (12.5% alcohol), full of fruit, good length and sustaining tannin and acidity. Last tasted April 2006 ***(**) Could do with more time, say 2010 – 2020. MB
