Reference 5208P
An awe-inspiring tour de force of horology, the reference 5208P is one of the most complicated wristwatches Patek Philippe has ever made, amply demonstrating the company’s mastery of complications. It includes a minute repeater, one of the most difficult horological complications of all to put in a wristwatch, a single button chronograph, an instantaneous perpetual calendar as well as moon phases and day and night indication.
Furthermore, to add another level of complexity, the reference 5208P is one of the very few highly complicated wristwatches to be self-winding. It also features components made using state of the art technology and materials: Silinvar, a Spiromax balance spring and Pulsomax escapement with a lever and escape wheel made of the innovative silicon-based material. The three most important components of the escapement - the hairspring, the balance wheel and the anchor or pallet fork - are now in silicium or Silinvar, as Patek Philippe has named it. With the use of the revolutionary Silinvar Spiromax spring, Patek Philippe has ventured one step closer to perfection - the spring is isochronous regardless of temperature, movement orientation or magnetic presence.
In 2017, Patek Philippe chose this model to represent the company at the “Only Watch” charity auction in association with Christie’s held on 11th November that year. For the event, Patek created a unique version in titanium – reference 5208T-010 which sold for 6,200,000 Swiss Francs.
