Lot Essay

The present watch is preserved in like new condition. It is a re-edition of Blancpain's celebrated "Fifty Fathoms" model launched in 1953, considered the archetype of the diver’s watch. In the wake of its adoption by the French Navy’s combat swimmers corps for which it was initially designed, this timepiece was ordered by some of the most powerful navies in the world. Its name is derived from the water resistance guaranteed to a depth of 50 fathoms or 91.45 meters.
