Lot Essay

In excellent overall condition, the present chronograph delights the most perceptive collector through the quality of its dial and 14K gold case. Highly appealing and beautifully preserved, the timepiece is bestowed with the much cherished champagne dial variation with black subsidiary registers and Cosmograph signature. With a very well preserved case, its appeal is further enhanced by the fact it is cased in 14K gold, understood to be made exclusively for the American market.

Housing the Valjoux 727 mechanism, gold Daytona chronographs were powered by movements with COSC official chronometer certification, which was an unusual feature for a chronograph of the period. Consequently, dials fitted on such examples bear the designation “Chronometer at 12 o’clock, and “Cosmograph” above the 6 o’clock register.
