Comte Georges de Vogüé, Bonnes-Mares 1973
Grand Cru, Côte de Nuits
Tasting note: October 2017 at the Domaine. Same nose as the 1980 of fine red fruits with some brier and rhubarb aromas. Well aged with slight touch of volatile and fairly sweet. Mineral tone, even faintly sweet nose which reminded me of a tawny port style going towards balsamic aromas. A surprisingly good nose.
Soft sweet fruit on the first taste, in a lively quite intense style. Really lovely aroma of fresh crushed strawberries. Remarkable in a forty-four year old wine! Medium length with a great balance. After a while more blue-berries aromas appeared on the after taste. Amazing wine in a challenging vintage. Bravo. Exceptionally well aged wine of class. I invite all who count this as a lesser period for de Vogüé to come and taste this Bonnes-Mares 1973! E.V.
