Details
Comte Georges de Vogüé, Bonnes-Mares 1980
Grand Cru, Côte de Nuits
Tasting note: October 2017 at the Domaine. Light clear healthy red color.
On the nose fine old beetroot and brier, some volatile. All in fine condition for this age. Uplifting aroma, sweet with gamey aroma’s of wild mushrooms and forest floor followed by vintage furniture wax.
On the palet the fine sweet start of taste is remarkable, much more pure fresh red fruit of rich strawberries on the taste compared to the nose. On the finish the acidity appears gracefully amidst the mature tannins and light red fruits. Refreshingly elegant Bonnes-Mares at optimum drinking stage now. Well balanced and well aged.
To me this is a great example that the best terroirs from the best domaines make good wines even in the most challenging vintages. E.V.
