Unlike most brilliant cuts, with traditional kite or star-shaped facets, the emerald cut bears rectangular facets resembling that of stairs or steps, also known as, a step cut. Surely these facets emit brilliance and scintillation, but in a much subtler manner. Jewellers usually prefer to carve brilliant-cut gemstones because the larger number of facets makes it easier to accentuate the fire of a stone. In addition, only exceptionally high clarity gemstones would be considered for step cuts since they have a large table and lack fire, making it difficult to mask any inclusions. With the diminishing yields from Mogok Valley in Burma in recent years, to find even a handful of rubies of such calibre is already a revelation; but to find 60 of them is nothing short of a miracle (in the jewellery industry)! Collected and created by none other than the extraordinary Faidee, a name that equates to the rarest and most exceptional gemstones. Faidee was founded by Mr. Roop Chand Lunia in the early 1900s; his ability to foresee the potential of a rough made him one of the most legendary gem dealers of his time, earning him the title ‘King of Burmese Rubies.’ Known for his vast collection of the highest quality Burmese rubies, every piece created exudes exclusivity and perfection. This is made possible from a reserve cache of special rough and polished rubies, exquisite beyond imagination that is kept in their trophy collection. Lot 2058, embellished with 60 emerald-cut rubies, radiates fire no less than normal brilliant-cut gemstones. After 25 years, Faidee has finally produced a bracelet with such remarkable rubies.
