The first edition of the only book printed in English in the whole of Spanish America during 300 years of colonial rule (Medina). A large number of English-speaking immigrants entered Mexico following the American Revolutionary War and this catechism was printed in part to help this population comply with the country's mandatory Catholicism. Small octavo (147 x 100mm). Pages 1-2 in Spanish, pages 3-41 in English (tiny wormhole catching a few letters). Modern vellum; cloth folding case. Provenance: Christie's New York, 14 June 2006, lot 502.
