Hilprand Brandenburg’s copy of a popular treatise on moral theology arranged according to the ten commandments. Brandenburg’s first recorded gift to Buxheim was made in 1479, and by the end of his life he had given the monastery a total of 450 books, both manuscript and printed. A crisp, fresh copy. Chancery folio (290 x 202mm). 262 leaves, with the blank first leaf, rubricated (small rubrication stains on one leaf). Contemporary German pigskin over bevelled wooden boards, metal clasps, manuscript title on spine (lightly scuffed). Provenance: Hilprand Brandenburg of Biberach (1442-1514; contemporary Buxheim inscription recording his donation on the first blank leaf) – Buxheim, Carthusian Monastery Library (stamp on first text leaf).
