Lot Essay

The design is attributed to Tiffany’s Norwegian designer Olaf Wilford (1894-1980) and was introduced in 1940. The model was a popular success and remained in production until the early 1950, and was featured in Tiffany's display in the House of Jewels pavilion at the New York World's Fair (1939-40). This pattern was produced in limited numbers until the early 1950's, and is illustrated in Jewel Stern's Modernism in American Silver: 20th-Century Design, 2005, p. 177 fig. 8.15 and 8.16.
