The elephant was an iconic emblem of Fremlin’s Ales and Beers, one of the largest breweries in Kent between 1860-1960. Its origins are unclear but more than likely the elephant was related to the brewery’s line in Indian Pale Ale. A comparable example is in the collection at Maidstone Museum, Kent.
