Lot Essay

This bookcase is undoubtedly inspired by the work of Gillows of Lancaster and London: related designs can be found in the Gillows Estimate Sketch Books from 1822-25, see design nos. 3192, 3202 and 3447. According to the design specifications, Gillows supplied this type of low bookcase in rosewood and mahogany.
