Lot Essay

A billowing aureole of flames surrounds the incised image of Hayagriva Heruka on the present gilded miniature-shrine door. The shrine, in full form, would have likely protected an image of the deity or a related wrathful figure. The present image was executed with strict attention to traditional Tibetan Buddhist iconometry.
