Lot Essay

Farrukh Siyar was the grandson of Bahadur Shah I and reigned as Mughal Emperor from 1713 to 1719. This portrait is executed after portraits of the Emperor signed by or attributed to Bhavani Das, dated circa 1720. One of them sold at Christie's, London, 10 June 2015, lot 13. Another portrait signed by the artist was formerly in the Francoise and Claude Bourelier Collection and sold at Artcurial, Paris, 4 November 2014, lot 243 (Forge and Lynch., 2015, cat.12).
