Launched in 1956, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date quickly became one of the firm’s most popular timepieces. The manufacture’s first self-winding waterproof wristwatch to display the date and day of the week, the model became the manufacture’s playground with a wide array of variants produced with diverse case materials and dials.

Produced from 1959, the reference 1803 can be widely considered as the most successful and enduring reference of the Day-Date. The model was crafted with a more refined case and a fluted bezel. With a serial number of just around 2,8 million, the wristwatch is correctly assembled with the calibre 1556, upgraded from the previous calibre 1555, increasing the frequency of the balance wheel, which guaranteed increased accuracy, and the presence of the hack feature enabling precise time-setting by locking the seconds hand. Built during the early seventies, the wristwatch showcases the ability of Rolex to quickly match the demands and tastes of their customers, at a time when creativity was primordial, by creating dials of varying colours or textures and in some cases creating dials following special orders.
