Lot Essay

The present pendant watch is fresh to the market and distinguished by the very rare combination of a blackened or black oxide stainless steel case and a black enamel dial enhanced with gilt Breguet numerals,

Also known as mourning or widow watches, these "black" watches were worn to commemorate the wearer's passed away loved one.

An example of a blackened "mourning" pendant watch with black enamel dial and gilt Breguet numerals is illustrated in Patek Philippe Watches, Volume I, Patek Philippe Museum, 2013, p. 73, Inv. P-1495.
