A BRONZE TRIPOD RITUAL WINE VESSEL, JIA
SHANG DYNASTY, CIRCA 13TH CENTURY B.C.
The vessel is cast with a globular body with a slightly flaring rim supporting two upright posts with tapering caps. The c-shaped handle is cast with a mythical beast head and the vessel stands on three blade-form feet. The body is decorated with evenly-spaced flanges dividing two registers of taotie masks with raised eyes, below a band of stiff leaves at the neck.
