A LARGE 'TWINS OF HAPPINESS AND HARMONY' BRONZE VASE
LATE MING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY
The vase is decorated to the neck with a three-legged toad in relief tempted by two strings of coins held by two figures of Liu Hai which form the handles at the neck. The body of the vase is cast in high relief with a quatrefoil panel depicting two smiling scholars playing weiqi with an attendant serving tea all below trees and a bird in flight. The reverse is decorated with a panel enclosing the Laughing Twins, Hehe Erxian. The base is cast with an apocryphal Xuande mark.
