A SET OF FOUR RED-GROUND SILK EMBROIDERED 'ELEPHANT' CHAIR COVERS
18TH CENTURY
Each cover is finely embroidered in coloured silk floss and couched gilt threads to depict a caparisoned elephant to the top register supporting a vase of auspicious objects on its back below a bat and shou character, and a Buddhist lion to the lower register, separated by a stylised lotus cartouche.
