With their distinctive foliate and rockwork carving and high-hipped zoomorphic legs, these consoles are closely related to a group of giltwood consoles formerly in the collection of the Princes of Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst, sold at Sotheby's Amsterdam, 16-17 October 2001, lots 272-273 and lot 276. They were probably executed in one of the main South-West German cabinet-making centres, possibly in Hohenlohe itself, however a convincing link to documented pieces from that region has not yet been made.
